About Mr George Spyrou

Mr George Spyrou is a highly qualified substantive NHS Consultant in Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery.
He is based at Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield West Yorkshire UK. He also practices cosmetic surgery at Methley Park Hospital in Leeds and the Nuffield Hospitals. 

Mr Spyrou gained his basic medical qualification in Greece before relocating to the UK in 1992. After four years of basic training in general and plastic surgery he qualified as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FRCSEd) in 1996. Following that he undertook a pioneering research project in the management of scars at the University of Bradford. He submitted his thesis in 1998 and was awarded the higher degree of Master of Philosophy (MPhil) for his period of research. His higher specialist training as a Specialist Registrar in Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery was carried out in Bradford, Leeds, Hull and Wakefield. He also spent periods in other specialist centres in London and Belgium.

In 2003 he completed his accreditation as a Specialist Plastic Surgeon, acquired the Specialist status with the General Medical Council (GMC) and gained the Specialist Fellowship in Plastic Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery EBOPRAS (European Boards of Plastic Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery)

Before taking up his Consultant position Mr Spyrou undertook dedicated training in Breast Oncoplastic Surgery in Leeds. While in post he underwent comprehensive cross specialty training in all aspects of excisional, reconstructive, corrective and aesthetic breast surgery. In addition he gained further sub-specialist experience in Cosmetic Surgery in general with emphasis given to Facial Aesthetics by successfully completing the prestigious Inamed Aesthetic Fellowship at the Humana Wellington Hospital in London. These two fellowships have given Mr Spyrou an outstanding foundation in Cosmetic and Reconstructive Facial, Breast and Body contouring Surgery.

He has published and continues to publish his work in the fields of Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery and presents regularly at Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery conferences at national and international level.

In the NHS his specialist interests are general Plastic and Reconstructive surgery including cancer excision and reconstruction, facial reconstructive surgery, breast and body contouring surgery as well as paediatric Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. In the private sector he undertakes all aspects of cosmetic surgery.

Mr Spyrou is a full member of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS), associate of the British Association of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS), fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FRCSEd), diplomate of European Boards of Plastic Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery (EBOPRAS) and member of the Hellenic Society of Plastic Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgeons (HESPRAS).

BAAPS is probably the most important Cosmetic and Aesthetic Society in the UK. Becoming a member of BAAPS is only possible for surgeons who can demonstrate their full training in cosmetic surgery. In order to maintain their membership, all BAAPS members must return their annual audit figures for scrutiny to this organisation.

Mr Spyrou works with a very skilled group of doctors and nurses including his anaesthetist and plastic surgery-dedicated nurses in theatres and in dressing clinic. He tailors the delivery of care according to the individual patient needs and listens to them very carefully. Mr Spyrou offers the highest standards of consultation, advice, treatment and support before and after surgery.
